About Me

Picture
Af you're here, you probably know the deal - I would be surprised if anyone just managed to stumble on this page, but here goes...

My name is Mark Hunter, and this is my home on the web.
I don't know that I'd go so far as to call myself a writer, but I am definitely an author.

I was born on February 12, 1979, in Pontiac, Michigan. I'm married and I have a cat and a dog. I work and I watch the Detroit Tigers and I listen to a whole lotta music. I try to play guitar, and I almost succeed at playing bass. Every once in a while, I try to write something.

As of April 3, 2022, I have published three novels:
Middle Seconds (2017/2021)
Shift Change (2019)

Time's Incinerator (2020)

My most recent completed project was the second edition of Middle Seconds. I took my original final draft and went over that one more time. In that process, I cut out about 10000 words that didn't need to be there. Nothing was lost from the plot. From there, I submitted what was left to my editor, Karolyn Herrera. What resulted was a much better book. If you have a first edition, please let me know and I will send you a free copy of the new version.

I am hitting the homestretch on my next book, tentatively titled:
Rockstar: The Life, Legend, and Many Deaths of Dan Webster

I have some influences, but I don't know if they come out in my work. My favorite writers are Kurt Vonnegut, Charles Bukowski, and Chuck Klosterman. I have a fondness for S.E. Hinton and C.D. Payne, too. I also take inspiration from stand-up comedy - specifically, George Carlin, Bill Hicks, and Marc Maron. I have music running through my head all the time, and my lyricists are Craig Finn of the Hold Steady, Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes, and Brian Fallon of the Gaslight Anthem. Beyond that, I like listening to smart people talk for way too long about things they are passionate about.

Here's a fun interview I did regarding Shift Change:
